Theme: Channels of God’s Grace
Date: July 4 – 6, 2014

In the Catholic Church, we have 7 Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Giving of Alms, Holy Orders and Matrimony. Through these Sacraments, we receive God’s grace and love. In this camp, we focused on four of them.

Baptism is the first sacrament we receive from God. We can only be baptized once and it can be done at any age. This sacrament is the first step we take in becoming a Catholic; the first step we take to enter God’s mighty Kingdom. A few years after our Baptism, we then receive God’s second and third sacrament, Confirmation and Eucharist. To confirm is to once and for all establish our faith in the Catholic Church – We believe there is only one God, the one and almighty, maker of heaven and earth. That Jesus came and died for us, resurrected and took away our original sin. Once confirmed, we are able to receive the Eucharist, the body of Christ, the Holy Spirit. The Eucharist can be received daily, it is a sacrament to remind us that Jesus died and rose again for us, so that we can all receive the Holy Spirit and be closer to God. Although Jesus has taken our original sin away, we still commit sin, and for these sins we can ask God’s eternal forgiveness through the fourth Sacrament of Reconciliation. Reconciliation is basically a bonding time with God. In this time, we reflect and confess to God what we have done wrong, then we reconcile with God, ask for his forgiveness, the priest will forgive us in God’s name. Through this sacrament, we are able to get closer to God and experience the grace of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

This camp was informative, inspirational and fun. It reminded us how and why we became a Catholic, the wonders of being one. More importantly, 2014 Youth Camp helped us become closer to each other as brothers and sisters in Christ and to God, our eternal loving Father.

Reflections from Youth Camp 2014

1. What was your favourite part of camp? Why?

“The confession part because I was able to reflect on my own sins and feels closer to God.”

“During games activities, reconciliation and all the way to campfire. I felt that everyone bonded really well during our quiet reflection time and made praise and worship & bonfire sessions heart warming.”

2. What new things of the sacraments did you learn?

“Communion is about the Holy Spirit entering you and strengthening your Faith.”

“I learnt that Baptism and Confirmation can only be done once.”

3. What do the sacraments mean to you now? (你現在覺得聖事對你的意義是什麼?)

“聖事就是把無形的恩寵變成有形的標記”

4. How can you apply sacraments to your daily life?

“By being helpful and respectful of others. Try to live in Jesus’ footsteps.”

“I go to Mass every Sunday but now I can be more attentive when I’m there – to show more respect to this special sacrament of Eucharist instead of just doing it out of routine.”

5. How will you share the sacraments with your friends?

“Receiving joy from God & being a source of joy for people I encounter – whether they believe in God or not. I don’t think I need to always talk about God but when I try to live out a life of love hopefully other people will experience God’s love as well through me.”
